Fernwood is located in scenic Berrien County, the well known orchard and wine country of southwest Michigan. Our address is 13988 Range Line Road, Niles, Michigan 49120, located within Buchanan Township near the City of Buchanan.
The easiest way to find Fernwood is to exit off US 31 (see below):
From Chicago take Interstate 94 east to US 12 (Exit 4A). Take US 12 east to US 31 and go north.
Alternatively, you can take the 80/90 Indiana Toll road to US 31 north and proceed as set forth below.
From Harbor Country, take US 12 east to US 31 north and proceed as directed below.
From St. Joseph and adjacent northern routes, take Interstate 94 to Napier Avenue (Exit 30. Go east on Napier Avenue, to US 31 south, and proceed as directed below.
From Sturgis and the eastern routes, take US 12 west to US 31 north and proceed as directed below.
From South Bend take US 31 north and proceed as directed below.
From US 31 take Walton Road (Exit 7) off US 31 and go west (toward Buchanan) 1.7 miles to Range Line Road. Turn right on Range Line Road and travel 1.7 miles to the Fernwood entrance. Look for signs along both US 31 and Walton Road.

Check Out a Backpack on Your Next Visit!
Thanks to a grant from the Jewish Women’s Endowment Fund of the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley, families visiting Fernwood can borrow backpacks with activities to do while exploring the grounds.
The birds backpack includes binoculars, field guides, and checklists.
The gardens backpack contains scavenger hunts, books on plants and flowers, an insect field guide, and a bug box.
Now available! The preschoolers backpack helps kids explore with their five senses and contains mystery smells, pictures, magnifiers, books, etc.
